Handfasting - A Marriage Ritual

Handfasting is a term for a wedding ceremony in Neopaganism, especially in Wicca. A traditional wedding custom/ritual older (One of the oldest too) than the 'I Do' vows ceremony. In other words, it reveals more holy and magical presence in this custom.
The marriage vows taken in the handfasting ceremony may be for "a year and a day," "a lifetime", "for all of eternity" or "for as long as love shall last." Its very optional as it also promote a sense of free soul. Nonetheless, it also heavily promote a vows renewal, so as to enhance 'the burning of love' carryon.

Origin of the term

The verb to handfast in the sense of "to formally promise, to make a contract", especially in use of the contract of marriage. The derived handfasting is for a ceremony of engagement or betrothal; recorded in Early Modern English. The term was presumably loaned and used in Middle to Early Modern English for the making of a contract; in direct translation "to strike a bargain by joining hands".

Halloween

Halloween (every Oct 31st) in translation as A Holy Evening or A Saints' Eve. Most of the western religion have such festive, including the wiccan (they refer it to Samhain)  It is a magical evening that it honour all spiritual beings, especially the dead and the holy beings like angels (Note: it refer to any beings with spiritual energy, e.g. humans, animals, spirit ant etc.). It holds great energy of spiritual energiser aka a great energy recharge opportunity for every creatures in this universe. Below are some Myths and Truth about Halloween.

Myths:

• Halloween is a night of horror.

  

• Hallows sound like shadow and thereby its something scary.

• Tick-or-Treat and the costume dress it meant to scare the evil creature while hidden one identity in the eyes of the evil creature.

 

Truths:

• It being horror is because of the media (movie/TV show) marketing.

  

• The truth is hallows refer to the holy aka saints. It is a day for great magic, a day of miracles, a day of the un-expecting. It holds for positive sense than the negative.

  

• Tick-or-Treat and the costume dress is meant to bring joys and entertainments to all beings. Its a festive day where all beings comes together to celebrate in harmony; no fear, no discrimination, no anger, no differentiation in this day (a day where every creatures are equals). For instance, regardless of a hero or villain costume, there are no different and live in harmony.

  

• Pumpkin Lantern imply a spot of light in the darkness like a star (a symbol of hope in the dark sky); similar to the Chinese pomelo lantern during the Chinese Moon-Cake Festival. Both represent a symbol of beauty, light of hope/prosperity, and the appreciation of the harvests from the earth's greatness. 

 

In other words since Halloween is a Holy Evening, it is a great night to carryout spiritual/fortune-telling/magical related activities. These include rituals, spell-casting or even making a wish/new-year(or month) resolutions. It is also a great day (in blessing terms) to make any major decisions or actions.


Tips on Halloween (^^)

• Timing of Halloween should be 6pm (Oct 31st) to 6am (Nov 1st). ['6' is the start of a neutral timing, in relation to the 'equals' indication in Halloween] 

• Check the moon phases of that day.
• If it is a new moon or full moon phase, you can conduct any wish/ritual/blessing/spell-casting; this phases hold the greatest magical energy compare to the waxing and warning moon. 
• If it is a waxing moon phase, good to have constructive type of wish/ritual/blessing/spell-casting. (e.g. I hope my exam will pass)
• If it is a warning moon phase, good to have de-constructive type of wish/ritual/blessing/spell-casting. (e.g. I hope my exam will not fail)

 

• Participating in the Joys of Trick-or-Treats (with positive moments/mind-set) can bring up your positive energy aka your positive luck too. ['Trick' is meant to have fun moments with everyone, 'Treat' is the same meaning as sharing/giving and thereby good thing in return]

 

• Colors that enhance wish/ritual/blessing/spell-casting - Purple, Black, Gold, Silver or White {these are colors in relation to Mystic, Occult or Holy} It can be in clothing or accessories.

Myths/Truth: Chinese Ghost Month (Lunar Calendar Seventh Month) + Simple Counter Tactics

In traditional belief, a ghost/spirit/specter/phantom/apparition/spook is the soul or spirit of a dead person or animal. The belief in manifestations of the spirits of the dead is widespread, dating back to animism or ancestor worship in pre-literate cultures.

In Chinese context, the seventh month of the lunar calendar is set as a month for the dead (aka many locals translate that it is a month where the dead have their vacation on the human realm). The origin of this context comes from many different Chinese myths stories. In overview, it is a month to respect the dead; similar as the western Halloween festive.

Myths: During this Chinese Ghost Month, there will be lots of spirit/ghost in the human realm.

Truths: There are no different in quantity of spirit/ghost in the human realm compare to the other month. 

As mention it is a month to pay respect to the dead, especially for those who yet find the light (aka yet to be reincarnate and still wondering in the human realm). Many true spirit whisperers verify that there are no different in quantity of spirit/ghost in the human realm compare to the other month.

Myths: During this Chinese Ghost Month, the spirit/ghost possess a stronger spiritual strength to attack humans.

Truths: There are no different, the spirit/ghost spiritual strength does not increase/decrease in this month.

During this month, human tends to be afraid (subconsciously) and thereby their spiritual level decrease. Thus they become an easy target for those attacking spirit/ghost; the more afraid you are, the more weaker you will be spiritually. In other words, to easy repeal attack by a spirit/ghost, a person must keep high self-esteem and being respectful towards the dead.

 

Desipte there are no different in spirit/ghost during chinese ghost month (or even Halloween), there are still things to TAKENOTE; by means of human tends to have lower spiritual level (being afraid subconsciously) that become an easy spirit/ghost attacking target during this month.

1》 Minimise going for water activities, water acts as a portal to the spiritual realm.

2》 Minimise going to the nature at night (especially when there are trees and vine plants), plantation at night release more 'Ying' energy (energy that in favour toward the spirit/ghost). Just like carbon dioxide (what plantation release at night) will suffocate human being.

3》 Don't disrespect the dead, revenge exist in both human and spirit/ghost realm.

4》 Don't turn your head unnecessary or even when someone call your name (if do, you should turn your head with your body). When you turn your head, you will lower you spiritual flame (aka spiritual level)

> If you turned head unnecessary, step your right foot 3 consecutive time to reactivate your spiritual flame (aka spiritual level).
